We have to be careful not to always only object. Let's find ways to be proactive and give some solutions. This way we increase the chances of people listening to what we say. There are people struggling in the area with telecommunication.

  • We can suggest that they move the tower away from the pan and give your reasons why.
  • The owner of this property has built the wall very close to the dam. We are grateful that he has moved the entry to this property to Douglas road again. We still would like to minimise the amount of building activities so close the dam, to prevent any disturbance of bull frogs that are burrowed in that proximity.  They will use heavy equipment, like trucks and a crane, to erect a cell phone tower. When they work so close to the pan, many of the protected bull frogs, who burrowed themselves into the mud during the dry season will be squashed by these heavy vehicles.
  • It makes no sense to have a cell phone tower by the Pan as it is one of the lower points in the area.
  • Any new cell phone towers should be put on top of commercial buildings and away from residential areas, as is done in Western European countries. The additional height gained can only improve connectivity and reception.
  • If you don't want the tower there, then give some alternatives if possible. For example, if the owner moves the gate to be on Douglas road, and the tower is as far as possible from the dam, then less damage will be done to the bullfrogs. 
  • We can question why we need so many towers in the area? 
  • The pan is a God Given Gem. Any impact / damage on the surrounding area may have unintended consequences on the fauna and flora of the pan itself.
