Proposed Tariffs for 2019/2020 - Comment before 15 April
Proposed Tariff increases from July 1
…
At the March Council Meeting, the following tariff increases were announced for the 2019/20 financial year. They apply from 1 July.
The 60-69 years old pensioner rebate thresholds have been increased by 5.5 %. They will now be (on municipal valuation R2.5 million or less):
“The electricity tariff is expected to be reduced when the final budget is passed in May in light of NERSA’s decision not to grant Eskom a 17.1 % increase for 2019/20.
The City made extensive submissions during the NERSA public consultation process in objection to Eskom’s exorbitant tariff increase request. Indeed, the residents of the City cannot be expected to subsidise the corruption and looting that has taken place at Eskom over the past decade.
The City remains committed to keeping tariff increases as close to inflation as possible, but is subject to the tariff increases passed onto us by Eskom and Rand Water in particular.”
